The water that the city provides for human consumption kills fish. In most places the water contains chlorine, ammonia, and choramines to keep it free of bacteria. All of this must be neutralized to make the water safe for fish. In some locales only chlorine is used, check with your water supplier to confirm this.
We have a relatively inexpensive product appropriately called City Water Detox that will make the city water safe for fish in a matter of minutes. Use it when you fill your pond and when topping up for evaporation. Always put these products into the pond before adding water.

One tea spoon of City Water Detox neutralizes 10 gallons of city water.
One quart treats 960 gallons and one gallon treats 1,920 gallons of city water. |

For customers with large ponds, we carry ClorAm-X,
a powder product that comes in 5lb and 10lb containers.
One once of ClorAm-X treats 235 gallons of city water. |
Another water issue common in this area is the presence of heavy metals in well water and sometimes in city water (iron, copper, zinc, etc.). These are very dangerous to fish, especially koi, even in trace amounts. Metals must be neutralized.
